James Priant Gulley was born in 1810 in St Clair, Hawkins, Tennessee, USA, son of Lazarus Gulley (1783 - 1839) and Nancy (Hensley) Gulley (1795 - 1874).

James married Nancy Osborne (1813 - 1878) Their children were:
