Gruffudd (Gruffydd) ap Gruffudd is Notable.

Griffin Vaughan, son of Griffin de Bromfeud[1] alias Griffin Vaghan son of Griffin son of Madoc,[2] Griffin son of Griffin de Bromfeld[3]

Griffith, The White Baron

He was named as Gruffudd Fychan in a treaty between Edward I and Llewelyn ap Gruffutdd, made in 1277, which stipulated he do homage to the King for lands he held in Ial and homage to Prince Llewelyn for lands he held in his dominions.[4]

In 1278, Gruffudd Fychan gave the manor of Llandegla in Ial to Anian II, Bishop of St Asaph. He was deprived of the lordship of Ial by Edward I, who granted it to John, Earl of Warren and Surrey by a charter dated 7 October 1282.[4]

On 11 May, 1284, at Harlech (Hardelagh), a Memorandum recorded that Margaret, late the wife of Madoc Vaghhan, came into the chancery at Aberconewey, on Friday the morrow of the Acension, and offered herself against John de Warenna, earl of Surrey, concerning the towns of Eyton and Suulli, which she demanded against him as dower, and against Griffin Vaghhaun concerning the town of Corwan and the manor of Hawoth Kylimanllwynt, which she demanded against Griffin in name of dower.[5] Madoc Vaghhan was Griffin Vaghhaun's oldest brother.

He died in 1289.[6]

Property Transactions

In 1282, 11 Edward I, enrolled at the chancery was a release by Griffin Vaughan, son of Griffin de Bromfeud [sic Bromfield], to John de Warenna, earl of Surrey and Sussex, of his land of Yal [Iâl], with all the appurtenances that he had at any time in his purparty of his father's inheritance, which was witnessed by Geoffrey de Neville, Thomas de Chaworth, Brian son of Alan, Guncelin de Badelesmer, Anselm de Gyse, William Peyforer, William de Chaworth, Saer de Huntingfeud, Edmund de Deyncurt, John de Haveresham, Walter de Sancto Martino, John le Tieys, knights.[1]

On 4 March, 1282/3, at the abbey of Thlanegustel, Griffin Vaghan son of Griffin son of Madoc, wrote a letter, enrolled in the chancery, witnessing that the king, Edward I, at the request of Sir John de Warenna, earl of Surrey, granted to Griffin that he may hold the land of Glindoverdo of the king during the king's pleasure, on condition that Griffin make to the king letters in which he confessed that he had no right in the tenancy of the land except at the king's will, so Griffin notified that he claimed nothing in the land except at the king's will.[2]

On 3 August, 1284, at Criccieth (Cruket), Griffin son of Griffin de Bromfeld acknowledged that he owed to Robert bishop of Bath and Wells 11 marks, to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels.[3]

Research Notes

The calendar of patent rolls records that, on 23 July 1285, a commission of oyer and terminer was issued on the complaint of Robert de Hamme that Roger Bygod, earl of Norfolk, Griffin Mayler and others had falsely arrested him in "at Neverwent, in the march of Wales" and imprisoned him at Strogoyl until he paid a ransom.[7]

Wikipedia states that Gruffud Fychan I, Prince of Powys Fadog from 1277 to 1284, died in 1289, and that his great-grandson was Owain Glyndŵr, the son of Gruffyd's son, Madog Crypl.[8]

Following up on comments on Audley-86, from what's currently written in the profile, Gruffydd-111 is intended to represent the son of Gruffud Maelor II (Ap_Madog-37) as they are currently attached. Farwn Gwyn also translates as the White Baron, same as Barwn Gwyn. Therefore, I believe that this profile should be attached to Gruffud Maelor II's only known wife and the mother of his four sons per multiple sources, Emma (Audley) of Powis (Audley-86).

I don't see anything in this profile that suggests that it is supposed to represent one of the murdered grandsons. The murder happened in 1281. This profile was the father of Madog Crupl who "was still a child at the death of his father Gruffydd Fychan in 1289" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madog_Crypl).

Gruffydd-111's birth date needs to be adjusted. I see that it is taken from the only source on this profile, but he must have been born after Gruffud Maelor II and Emma of Powis' marriage that occurred somewhere around 1242-1244. The source appears to have just added 30 yrs to the father's birth date.
