Biography

According to "The Groff Book" (Clyde Groff, Walter Groff, Jane Evans Best, 1985, volume , p.67) she was born 27 November 1759. She is mentioned in the will of her husband, Peter Wolf (dated 24 June 1834, proved 04 September 1838) by her maiden name, "my beloved wife Elizabeth Groff". In the 1840 federal census at Millerstown, Perry County, Pennsylvania, she appears 2 rows above her son Peter Wolf (Jr.) and is noted to be between 80-89 years old.

She is proven to be the daughter of Jacob and Catharine Groff of Washington County, Maryland in a Borough of York, York County, Pennsylvania deed from them on 03 November 1791 to Elizabeth and her husband Peter Wolf (York County Pennsylvania Deed Book 2-P, 1796-1802, p. 577-578):

"Jacob Groff and Catharine his Wife as well for and in consideration of the natural love which they bear to their Daughter Elizabeth the Wife of Peter Wolf..."

Elizabeth is also mentioned in the will of her father Jacob Groff (dated 13 August 1819, proved 07 October 1819). Jacob provides for her children that "can not speck nor here". Several of Elizabeth's children (e.g., Catharine, Henry, Peter) can be shown to have been "deaf and dumb".
