Yes, I did go to Tech ‘64-‘69 in Chemical Engineering. Funny you knew that. You have been doing your research. I only dabbled in this several years ago after I found the Griscom Tree in the Betsy Ross house. I eventually obtained a copy from the architect who had the original, so now our children have one each. Good to meet you.
Bob
I presume you have seen the Griscom Family Tree, dating back to Andrew Griscom, who arrived in 1680. I have never been able to trace the lineage back further than then, although Andrew may have sailed from Wales. Do you have any information pre-1680? Thank you.
Bob Griscom
You and I are great, great, great, great cousins ( I think that is right number of greats). Your ancestor David Powell Griscom’s father was Samuel Griscom (married to Ann Powell). Samuel was the brother of my ancestor William Griscom(who married Mary Stewart.).
Bob Griscom
I have my lineage back to Andrew, thanks to the Griscom Tree and filling in from there. I’ve had contact years ago from other Griscoms, thanks to a request I posted many years ago in Yankee magazine. They had a Genealogy section at one time. Unfortunately I didn’t follow through and place them in the other branches. I corresponded with Lloyd Griscom, an author of a Griscom book, many years ago and he thought there was a link to the Huguenots, although I don’t know if that was from England or France. I never found out more. Let me know how to send something to you on my lineage. I’m new to Wikitree and don’t know how to add or send anything.
I am interested in your contact with Lloyd Griscom, I have been doing some research on Lloyd Carpenter Griscom who is an interesting person. Your contact may be his son or grandson.
The Huguenots were run out of France and some ended up in England via The Netherlands. There have been hints, but nothing concrete. about a Griscom link.
How are you keeping your records? I use Legacy Family Tree that has a free version.
My phone number is 205-789-7362 if you would like to talk about what you have.
As for keeping records, my method is crude - an expandable folder. After starting this discourse, I have gone back to the papers and found many that I had forgotten. I was in touch with Lloyd E. Griscom. He wrote that he is descendant of Benjamin Griscom (branch on right hand side of Griscom tree, off branch with Charles Lippincott Griscom (Lloyd’s grandfather). They moved to Burlington County in mid-1800’s. He mentions a book, “French Blood in America”. The book lists the name Griscom as one of several French Huguenots who escaped France.
I have a sheet of notes on Lloyd C Griscom that I could copy and send or email, if I knew how to get it to you.
On behalf of the US Southern Colonies Project Leaders, I am doing a check-in with members to see if you were Active in the US_Southern_Colonies (US SoCOL) in the last two months. When doing so, the reliable source you provided was "Spalding Memorial," which while it may be clear to you, is not sufficiently explained to permit the next researcher to easily follow in your footsteps to confirm your work. Please elaborate, for example, is this a Find-a-Grave entry you are referring to, in which case, you can link to the profile. Or did you visit the memorial yourself and it is not on find-a-grave, in which case, please provide information for a researcher to locate and see the memorial. If you have a photo, that would be a great addition.
Welcome to the Military and War Project. At the project page you will find useful information about the project. Please let us know if you have any questions. And be sure to sign up for the Military and War Google Group.
Thanks for adding me to the project. My ancestors from the Griscom and Hollingsworth lines came into Pennsylvania and New Jersey in the 1680s as Quakers.
Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. It normally takes 24 hours from adding a test, or adding a new ancestor, or ancestor’s descendant, for WikiTree to display your name and test results on your ancestors and their descendants’ profiles for potential cousins to compare results with.
Have fun!
