Hi Mark.

Welcome to Wikitree, I see you took the Pre-1700 test and started to create some. Thank you, You may want to review some of the requirements at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles Family trees from other sites are not a good source. If you have any questions, you can ask them at our G2G

Welcome to WikiTree and DNA, Mark.

My name is John Kingman. I am a Coordinator with the WikiTree DNA Project.

Since you have taken a DNA test, you may be interested in how you can use DNA test matches with your relatives to strengthen your genealogy on WikiTree. You will find the answers in the Help pages, of which the DNA Help category page shows all the DNA help that is available, and the How to Get Started with DNA page is highlighted. Also the DNA Features page can show you various ways that DNA tests can work with your genealogy.

You may see some relatives show up in your list of "DNA Connections" on your profile if they have added a DNA test to their profile. These DNA Connections are possible DNA test matches, they are not sufficient for marking parental relationships as "confirmed with DNA" without providing a DNA Confirmation source citation providing details of an acceptable DNA match. You may find that you have acceptable matches with some of them. There is more information about DNA Connections on the DNA Test Connections page.

When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the DNA Confirmation help page. Also, I strongly recommend using the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker, for creating and/or validating your DNA confirmation source citations. Note that a profile should not be marked "confirmed with DNA" without source citations for both genealogy and relevant DNA test matches.

If you have questions or need assistance, feel free to ask on the G2G Forum using the Tag "DNA" and/or "DNA_Confirmation".

Please sign our Honor Code, and happy hunting!

Hi Mark,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

PS You can start adding profiles from yourself, ie adding parents, then grandparents and then working out. Or if there is an existing profile further up your tree, you can start there.

Hi Momo,

Thanks for replying. I've been on Ancestry.co.uk and completed out ancestors on my mothers side accepting the Potential mothers/fathers. It went quite far back...with some having titles and coat of arms as their profile pic. I've then searched google which led me to their profiles on WikiTree. I've used the mother/father links to complete out my family tree on Ancestry. I've gone all the way back to 980AD in a couple of cases. Is this normal? Some of my ancestors birthplaces have been castles!! I've exported my GEDCOM file and ran a report, but not sure what to do next. Do i need to build out my family tree on this platform?
