Biography
1567 Visitation
William is known from the 1567 Visitation of the County Palatine of Lancaster. It says simply that William Gregory of Highhurst was lineally descended from Adam Gregory (not his son) and was married to Dorothy Parre, daughter of William Parr, gentleman of Kempenhaughe, co. Lancaster.[1][2]
Highhurst was in the township of Tyldesley with Shakerley, parish of Leigh, West Derby hundred (about 10 miles west of Manchester), Lancashire, England. [3]
Grant Gregory believed William to have been a juror, in 1503, in a suit between James Pemberton and Geoffrey Molyneux.[4]
The couple had issue: John, Hugh, and another named John according to the pedigree.[1] Grant Gregory in The Gregory Genealogy points out what he believes to be an error probably on the part of a transcriber, that there were not two sons named John, but John of Pagham & Highhurst, probably son of William, and his son John, spouse of Anne Oneslow.[4]
