Biography

Original information from one of the paper Mace family trees.

1768. From the Parish Register of Baptisms and Burials for Melcombe Regis, Dorset.
Baptisms 1768.
December 28, Daniel Vicaeroy(sic), Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Green.

At the age of about 35 he married spinster Martha Scriven at Melcombe Regis on 3 March 1803, after Banns, by Wm Gorton, Minister. The witnesses were Thos. Kingsbury and Elizabeth Kingsbury[1]. They went on to have at least seven children.

His wife Martha passed away in 1838 at the age of 60.

From the 1841 UK Census taken on the night of 6th June 1841:
County of Dorset, Borough of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis, Township of Melcombe Regis (part of).
At Stewards Court.
Wm Green, age 25, occupation Brewer, born in same County.
Ann Green, age 21, born in same County.
Daniel Green, age 70, occupation Mariner, born in same County.

His last reported voyage was in 1845. Daniel died two years later, on about 22 February 1847.

DEATHS
February 20 [sic], at advanced age, Mr. Daniel Green, for many years proprietor of some of the pleasure boats of Weymouth.[3]

Daniel's Last Will and Testament was dated 8 January 1844, with a Codicil dated 20 January 1847. In it he mentions his grandson Thomas Green (son of Daniel Green); his son Richard Green; and his three daughters Elizabeth Stevens, Sarah Day and Martha Green.[5]

    "My silver watch to my grandson Thomas Green son of Daniel Green and my 8 day clock to my son Richard Green. Residue to be divided equally between my three daughters Elizabeth Stevens, Sarah Day and Martha Green who are appointed executrices."
    Dated 8 January 1844.

    Codicil dated 20 January 1847.
    "To daughter Martha Green my bedstead and bedding. To my friend and landlord Thomas Bugler of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis £3."

    Administration granted 3 March 1847 to Elizabeth Stevens of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis, Dorset, one of the executrices named in the will with a codicil of Daniel Green late of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis, Dorset, mariner deceased, power reserved for the other two executrices. Testator died on or about 22 February 1847. Elizabeth Stevens’ address given as Park Street, Melcombe Regis on the application for administration. Under £200.
