Sophia Margaret Gray was born on 10 Sep 1834 at Bowerswell House, Kinnoull, Perthshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of George Gray and Sophia Margaret Jamieson – the first of two daughters to have the same name. Sophia was christened on 18 Oct 1834 at Kinnoull Church. [1]
Little Sophia, aged 6, passed away 2 July 1841 of scarlet fever at a seaside holiday home in Broughty Ferry, just outside Dundee, Scotland. Two other siblings, Mary and Jane, also died of scarlet fever during the same holiday. Out of 15 children of George Gray and Sophia Margaret Jameson, 7 died in childhood.[2]
She had a younger sister with the same name who lived to adulthood (1843-1882).
