Biography
Ellen Clare Grant was born in 1914 at Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. She was the second daughter of William Grant and Alice Wiles.[1]
She married Gordon Chalk on 22nd May 1937 in the Central Methodist Church (now Ipswich City Uniting Church), Ipswich, Queensland.[2] They had a son, Doctor Gregory Chalk, who died following an automobile accident in 1979, and a daughter.
Gordon was premier of Queensland for a week in 1968. He continued as treasurer and leader of the Liberal Party until his resignation from parliament in 1976.[3] When Gordon received a knighthood in 1971, Ellen became entitled as Lady Chalk.
She passed away after 1991, surviving Sir Gordon.
