Research Notes

  • At Cygnet

River, about eight miles from Kingscote ... is an old walnut tree. I think it must be almost 9O years old, as the late Mrs. John Wright (nee Emma Granger) told me as a child that when they came out from Erigland and settled on the island, her sister planted quite a number of the seeds of English plants and trees that they had brought with them. Two Old Trees Of Kangaroo Island (1945, March 22). Chronicle (Adelaide, SA : 1895 - 1954), p. 30

"CALLINGTON

The new skating rink has been opened, and on Wednesday evening of last week Professor Woods and Mrs. Turner, from Mount Barker, gave an exhibition of fancy skating. The acetylene lamps are a great improve ment." (Mt Barker Courier, 18 Oct 1909.) I would love to think this was my great grandmother, who would have learned to skate as a girl in England!

Grainger-194 and Granger-1775 appear to represent the same person because: I'm sure these two are the same person as all of their BMD details match. I've removed James Bray as I don't believe he belongs with this Mary Ann Granger.

Ive added a Conflated sticker. If no response I'll propose a merge and Mr Bray will become wifeless.

I'm aware that there's another profile which almost matches this one but I'm not proposing a merge at this stage because i haven't found any certified record that she married a John Bray. Happy to discuss this with anyone who knows otherwise.

There's another Mary Ann Granger/Grainger listed on Wikitree with the same parents but different birth and death dates and a different husband!. If the Profile Manager would like to private message me perhaps we can get to the bottom of this. Mary Ann was my great grandmother.
