Hildur was born to a single mother in 1898. Her father was listed as unknown. She was baptised by the midwife in an emergency baptism. Godparents were Karl Johan Karlsson and his wife at Granbergsliden, Per Anton Persson and Alma Sofia Walter in Dragnäs. Hildur lost her mother in 1907, and was sent to live with a foster family in Alvaliden, Norsjö parish, in 1911. Her foster parents were farmers Johan Lundström and Ida Aqvilina Perdotter, who was Hulda's maternal aunt. Ida was also one of the godparents for Hildur's brother who was sent to live with their uncle Per and his wife.
