James Bird Gould ^[1][2][3][4] was born on 7 June 1870 to Edwin Gould and Libbie Frink.

Note - Benton and Buchanan counties border each other in a north-south direction.

In 1880, [James] Bird Gould, age 10, is living in Atlanta, Saline, Nebraska, United States, with his father, E.R. Gould.^[7]

James was married twice.

James married Carrie E. Kendall on 10 October 1890 at the Bates School House, Rock County, Nebraska.^{[8] [9]}

In April 1910, James and Carrie were living in Pine Glen, Brown, Nebraska, United States. The following children were living with them: Dora V. 17; Ruth E. 15; Alfred E. 8; Lydia 5; Floyd 2.^[10]

In 1930, James, age 59, was living with his son, Edwin Gould and his family, in Brinkerhoff, Rock County, Nebraska, USA.^[14]

Death

James Bird Gould died at the age of 67 on 1 November 1937 in Ainsworth, Brown County, Nebraska, USA.^[15]

His son, Edwin wrote a poem, A Rose in the Desert in honor of his father after his death on 1 November 1937.

James is buried in the Ainsworth Cemetery, Ainsworth, Brown County, Nebraska, USA^[16]

Research Notes

James' birth date of 7 June 1870 does not correlate with the 1870 Census record. Edwin and Libby were living in Canton Township, Benton County, Iowa on 3 August 1870, and the twins were not enumerated. ^[17]

Some trees on Ancestry have a Gertrude (Gould) Nedaeski listed as a child of James and Carrie (Kendall) Gould. This is wrong. Carrie (Gould) Nedaeski's parents are Alfred Gould and Carrie Bennett. See the following Ancestry record New York, County Marriage Records, 1847-1849, 1907-1936. In 1940, Gertrude is living with her mother, Carrie (Bennett) Gould in Erie, Erie, Pennsylvania, not to be confused with Carrie (Kendall) Gould, who I believe had moved to Montana in the early 1930's.
