Michael Gough was an English actor, better known for his role as Alfred Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth, the fictional character that was depicted as Bruce Wayne's (Batman's) loyal butler in four films of the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher Batman series.
Francis Michael Gough was born on 23 November 1916 in Kuala Lumpur to Francis Berkely Gough.[1] Gough immigrated to the United States in 1937 at the age of 21.[2]
Gough was married four times and had three children; Jasper, Simon Peter and Emma Frances, as well as an adopted daughter, Polly, from his second marriage. Gough died on 17 March 2011 at his home in England at the age of 94. He was cremated and his ashes scattered at sea.
During the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on 29 January 2012, Gough was recognized by Meryl Streep during the 'In Memoriam' segment.
