Biography

Josiah was a Friend (Quaker)

Josiah was born in 2 Jun 1723 in Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay.^[1] He was the son of Stephen and Elizabeth Gorham.^[1]

He married Deborah Lovell on 26 Feb 1752 in Barnstable.^[2]

Josiah was received on certificate at the Nine Partners monthly meeting in Dutchess County, New York from the Linn monthly meeting in 18d 4mo 1777 [18 Apr 1777]. ^[3] He was received along with his wife, Deborah, and children Deborah, Elizabeth, and Abigail.^[3] Circa 1778, the family, along with additional son James, were listed as member of the Easton monthly meeting.^[4]

On 21d 2mo 1782 [21 Feb 1782], Josiah and Deborah witnessed the marriage of their son James to Parnel Gardiner at the Easton monthly meeting.^[5] On the same day, they witnessed the marriage of Elisha Folger and Judith Coffin.^[5]

He passed away in 1803.^{[citation needed]}
