Biography

Pearl (Gore) Dansby is a part of US Black heritage.

Pearl (Gore) Dansby was born in Tennessee.

Pearl Mayo Gore grew up on the campus of Tennessee A&I, where her father was Dean. She graduated from Pearl High School, then earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Tennessee State, where she was an honor student, and Ohio State University, where she was the first female psychology graduate. She began her distinguished career in teaching and research at the University of Illinois, then joined the TSU Psychology Department, which she chaired for many years. The announcement of her marriage to the Rev. William A. Dansby appeared in Jet magazine in 1962. Pearl Gore Dansby authored books, papers, and articles on self esteem in black children, superstitious rituals in sports, role and status perceptions among black women, and juvenile delinquency. She also published the first study on internal vs. external control of reinforcement expectancies in social interaction. She was honored for her ground-breaking work by the Nashville chapter of NOW and by an educational lecture series at Tennessee State University. - written by Kathy Lauder for the Greenwood Project.

Dr. Dansby was a member of the Alpha Delta Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
