Charles Goodman was born in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England.

Charles Nash Goodman was born on 21 March 1824 in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom, son of John Goodman (1797 - 1855) and Hannah Nash (1797 - 1862). He was christened on 4 May 1834 in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom[1].

He came out to the colonies with the 65th Regiment (Royal Bengal Tigers), seeing service in New Zealand. Charles married Sophia Ford on 21 September 1854 in New Zealand[2]. Their children were:

Subsequently he came to this State (NSW), and was one of the pioneers of stone-walling in the Hartley and Bathurst districts long before the railway was opened. Deceased had been a resident of the Glebe for 46 years, and saw it grow from small to very large proportions. He leaves a widow, four sons, two daughters, and 35 grandchildren.

Charles died on 30 December 1907 in Camperdown, New South Wales, Australia aged 83 in the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital[3]. He is buried in Rookwood Cemetery, Rookwood, New South Wales, Australia[4].
