The baptism registration dated at Egreja Parochial de Nossa Senhora da Luz in Ponta do Sol, Ponta do Sol, Madeira, Portugal further states that José was born in Ponta do Sol, Ponta do Sol on 18/06/1909 and is the legitimate son (first of this name) of Manuel Rodrigues do Vimieiro and María Gomes, both parents are natives of Ponta do Sol, Ponta do Sol who are residents in Lombo de São João. The paternal grandparents are Françisco Rodrigues do Vimieiro and María Vieira de Jesús and the maternal grandparents are Manuel de Freitas and María Gomes.
