Joseph Goldsworthy was born in 1853 in Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land, Australia, son of John Goldsworthy (1825– ) and Sarah Jane Hubbard (1816–1886).

Joseph died in 1909 in Beaconsfield, Tasmania, Australia, aged 55.
