James Godwin was a Virginia colonist.

James, the son of Col. Thomas Godwin (1656-1714) and Martha (Bridger) Godwin (abt.1660-abt.1714),[1] was named in his father's Nansemond will of 3 May 1712.

James married Sarah Kinchen, before 1734, daughter of William Kinchen of Isle of Wight County (in whose 1734 will she was named as Sara Godwin).[2]

A caution about FamilySearch. Previously, another James Godwin's data was mixed with Sarah Kinchen's husband. A couple of sources were incorrectly attached to James Godwin Sr. (1697 - 1761), who had married Mary Parker. Note also that an additional reference is on Sarah Kinchen's profile that mention her husband.
