Biography

Marie Magdelaine was born 12 Aug 1704 and baptized the next day day in St-Laurent de L'Île-d'Orléans. Parents were Nicolas Godbou and Marguerite Angelique Lemelin. Godparents were Antoine Lavallé and Marie Magdeleine Cadieu, no signatures. The original documents clearly spell LNAB Godbou as seen on the Ancestry and Family Search images. The extra contemporaneous clean copy imaged by IGD spells the LNAB Godebout which was a different more modern, yet not the contemporary Godbout, spelling. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

On 2 Feb 1722, in Notre-Dame-de-Québec, Simon Turcot son of François Turcot and Marguerite Oüimet married Marie Magdelaine Godebout daughter of the late Nicolas Godebout and Marie Angelique L'emelin. Witnesses included the bride's brother in law Joseph Gosselin serving as father, several signatures but neither the bride nor the groom could sign. ^[4]

Magdeleine Gaudebout, 34 year old wife of Simon Turcot, died 10 May 1737. She was buried 1 day later in Ste-Famille de L'Île-d'Orléans cemetery. Her husband, Simon Turcot, was present at the service. ^[5]
