January 1975 Moved to Mapua, in Goldern Bay, Nelson Region, to work on an apple and pear orchard owned by a family friend, until June, when I returned to my family home at Maungatapu. Worked in a clothing factory, making jeans on overlocker until, October, then moved back to Mapua to work on the same orchard to help prune and thin apples and pears until December. Returned back to Maungatapu. My mother Lois married for a 3rd time to a Fred Rathel, retired High School Teacher.

January 1976 Applied for Nurse Aid position in our churches newly build and opened private surgical/medical hospital in St Hellier's Bay, Glendowie, Auckland. Commenced working as a Nurse Aid.

June 1976 Gordon Carter came to nurse at the Auckland Adventist Hospital having worked in the Intensive Care unit at the Sydney Adventist Hospital. Prior to that he had trained and worked at the Royal Brisbane Hospital as the 2nd in Charge, of an orthopeadic ward. He was transfered to the Auckland Adventist Hospital from Sydney. In 1974, Gordon and his parents had taken a campervan holiday around the North and South Islands of NZ, and loved it so much, that Gordon thought he would return one day to see more. This is what made him seek a transfer from Sydney to Auckland.

Little did we know that we would work on the same ward together, and in Sept of 1976, Gordon asked me out on a date to a concert in the Auckland Town Hall.

January 18th 1977 Engaged to Gordon Arthur Carter

1976-77 Living at 39 Sierra Street, Glendowie, St Helliers Bay, Auckland, NZ with other hospital staff. The house was owned by the hospital. March 1977, I left the SDA hospital ( which was later sold in the late 1990's to another private hospital organisation), to commence my formal 18 month Community Nurse training at Tauranga Hopsital in April 1977. There were 220 applicants for just 20 places!! I felt extremely lucky that I was accepted, given that School Certificate was the prefered requirement for entry into the programme, which I did not have, however my prior nurse aid training, gave me the added advanage of some prior experience in nursing.

8 Jan 1978 Married at the Seventh Day Adventist church, 15th Avenue, Tauranga. This church was later sold, becoming a bicycle shop and later again, a paint shop. A new church was build on Bethlehem Road, Bethlehem, Tauranga. [11]

Hi Lynn

I'm contacting you for the annual ANZACS Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve profiles of ANZACs on WikiTree.

Please could you reply to this profile comment, or send me a private message to let me know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if so, what ANZACs activity you're planning to work on over the coming year. There are some ideas for activities on this page - Project:Anzacs. You could also add or update your entry on the 'Project Members and what we are doing' heading on that page.

If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you as a member of the Project.

The ANZACs Project is a sub-project of the Military and War Project, which has a channel on Discord. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. It's a great way to communicate with other members of the Project and help each other out.

We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Gillian ~ ANZACS Project Leader

Hi Lynn,

Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and with whom you might have ancestors in common. To get the best results, you need to continue adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, try a different one. 24 hours after you connect to an existing profile, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.

Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!

Lynn --

You may have been hard at work adding family members and getting connected to those that are already here. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now. So, this week we're going to look at how to work with your Watchlist: How to Manage Your Watchlist.

As always, your questions are welcome!

ANZACS Project - I wish to join this project to share knowledge of family members to served in both World Wars. Writing their biography has been on my 'to do' list for a number of years, perhaps having joined Wiki Tree, I will now get a move on this.

Am also very interested to develop profiles of ANZAC nurses from my collection of history books for both Australian and NZ nurses to help in Wiki Trees mission.

Lynn,

I suggest you go to the Project Anzacs page for information on how to join the project. You will need to add some text to your profile page and ask one of the leaders to award you the Anzac badge.
