FITCHBURG -- Victoria M. "Vicky" (Gionet) Girouard, 82 of Fitchburg died peacefully in her home on Dec. 27, 2013 surrounded by her family.

Vicky, a longtime Fitchburg resident was born in Shirley MA June 3, 1931 daughter of Emma (Lanteigne) Gionet and Joseph Gionet.

Her husband of 63 years Clovis (Tex) Girouard died Dec. 29, 2012. She is survived by two sons, Gary Girouard and his wife Patricia (Mooney) Girouard and Alan Girouard and his wife Jeanne (DiNardo) Girouard, both of Ashburnham. Three daughters, Cheryl Girouard and her partner Ruth Pedrick, Lisa (Girouard) Daigle and her husband Bertrand Daigle of Gardner, and Michele (Girouard) Bodah and her husband James Bodah of Naples Maine. A sister Judy (Gionet) Cooper and her husband Charles (Kit) Cooper of Livermore California, and a brother Joseph Gionet and his wife Jane of Leominster. She also leaves five grandchildren: Allison (Girouard) Priore, Clayton Girouard, Alysha (Girouard) McCooe, Jacqueline Girouard and Zachary Girouard, along with three great- grandsons, a great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her twin brother Victor Gionet of Leominster and a granddaughter, Sarah Girouard of Ashburnham.

Vicky had a love for playing cards, was a regular at local church bingos and enjoyed an occasional trip to Foxwoods with daughters, sister and granddaughter. She adored her family near and far and would speak of the pride she had for them. She stayed connected with her only sister who lived a great distance away and cherished those special times when she visited with her family.

As an adventurous and athletic teenager she was a great ice skater and learned to water ski. Her love of dancing showed her diverse talents where she once won a contest for the best jitterbug. With a competitive spirit she would challenge anyone to any game whether she ever played it or not. As an exceptional speller she would challenge anyone at Scrabble.

She was always ready to try something new. She was an accomplished candlepin bowler who won championships in her league more than once. Her adventures didn't stop there. Many years ago she flew upside down in an old airplane with an open cockpit held in only by a seatbelt! She could crochet beautifully, and as a cook her spaghetti and meatballs were legendary!

After she married she toured the United States and Canada with her husband Tex and his country band later known as The Sundowners. There were many stories of their adventures as struggling musicians, but she always reflected on how she met some of the great country music stars along the way.

After touring she became a devoted wife and mother of five children and put all her time into raising her kids. Once the children had grown she returned to the workforce as a seamstress at Baystate Curtain in Fitchburg and later as an assembler for Simplex Time Recorder in Gardner, Mass where she eventually retired.

Vicky was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend who will be truly missed by all.
