Death

Obituary from The Wapsie Index, November 20, 1885:
DIED - Maggie Bowersock, at the residence of her father, Dr. H.C. Gill, of Springdale, Iowa, November 9th, 1885. Deceased was born in Logan County, Ohio, in 1850, and came to Cedar County, Iowa, the same year, and has since lived in that county all her life except about one year at Marne, Iowa, and about four years at Holland, Iowa, where she resided at the time of her death. She received her education at the good common schools near Springdale, attending several terms of the Friends' schools, and received a certificate for teaching.
Possessed in childhood of an amiable and lively disposition, she carried it through her entire life. A little more than a year ago she had a severe illness from which she never recovered. Again this fall she was worse and came to her father's just two weeks before her death, bring with her an invalid son, hoping with a little change and a kind father's care, aided by his skillful professional services they both might recruit their health.
Some time before her death she realized that she must die and expressed a regret to leave a kind and faithful husband, a loving and dutiful son, her affectionate parents and kind friends.
About three days before she died she was taken worse, but not alarmingly worse until about four hours before her death, then three physicians did all they could for her relief, but she quietly passed away only a few minutes after the arrival of her husband. [1]

Research Notes

I have removed the request for gravestone picture at FindAGrave following these responses from FindAGrave volunteers. McGee-1611 00:40, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
  • Donna Bogs:
"I couldn't find her gravestone. There is a Bowersox stone that is very worn and unreadable. There are 2-3 unmarked plots on either side of it. Then there is a gravestone with her maiden name on it, Gill to the south of the Bowersox gravestone. It's very possible that she may be in an unmarked grave. Volunteer's Profile (46582865)" received 24 April 2019, 9:10 PM by McGee-1611
  • Jones Co IA Research Project:
"I searched the entire cemetery and could not find the grave. I spent all afternoon searching the cemetery and could not find the grave. Volunteer's Profile (49186704)" received 24 May 2020, 8:25 PM by McGee-1611
