Biography

^[1]John Thomas Giles, with his wife and family, had lived in Mount Morgan for some years where John worked as a miner. On 7th August 1909, John’s wife Ellen died at Mt Morgan at the age of 53 from Breast Cancer. John and Ellen had a family of 13 children of whom Arthur was the youngest, being then 9 years of age.

Some time after Ellen’s death, John returned to Howard to live and, about 1915, he married a widow, Elizabeth Sarah Weatherston at Maryborough. John and Elizabeth lived in a house in James Street. His mother lived the last few years of her life here with them.

John Thomas Giles continued to live in James St, Howard after his mother’s death. He developed cancer of the tongue a few years later and died on 11th March 1929 aged 75. His second wife died on 22nd June 1942 aged 74 and they are both buried at Howard.
