Dr. John Heysham Gibbon Jr. revolutionized heart surgery in the 20th century

John Heysham Gibbon Jr., was born in 1903. He was the son of Dr. John Heysham Gibbon Sr., and Marjorie Young Gibbon. He was an American surgeon best known for inventing the heart–lung machine and for performing subsequent open heart surgeries which revolutionized heart surgery in the twentieth century.

He died in 1973.
