Issac McFarland George was the son of Rufus and Prudence (McGirk) George. He married Sarah Groom on 28 Nov 1865 in Moniteau Co., Missouri. Isaac and his first wife Sarah had one son. She died in 1873. He then married Sarah Catherine Short on 26 June 1874 at the house of the Bride's father near Russellville, Cole County, Missouri.Isaac and his wife owned a farm in Cole County, then farmed in Bee Co., Texas. By 1920 they had moved back to Missouri, retired, and lived in Greenfield. He died in 1922.

  • County Advocate Vol. XLVI Number 19 Greenfield, Missouri Thursday May 11, 1922 Isaac McFarland George was born August 29th, 1844 in Montea county, Missouri 20 miles west of Jefferson City and died at his late home in Greenfield May 4, 1922 being at the time of his death 78 years, 10 months and 5 days old. He was married to Sarah A. Groom November 28th 1865. To this union one child William R. George (deceased) was born. His first wife died July 14th 1873. He was then married to Sarah C. Short July 26th 1874. To this union nine children were born, four of them preceded their father to the other world, five are still living. Only three were able to attend his funeral, Charles L. of San Antonio, Texas, John S. of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Robert M. of Greenfield. One daughter in Texas and one in California were unable to be here. His entire life was spent in Missouri and Texas. Early in life he became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in which he served as elder for 30 years. After coming to Dade County, MO, he united with the Church of Christ and was baptized by his son, John, at that time pastor of the church at Greenfield. He served in the Union Army about two years during the Rebellion and was discharged as a Lieutenant. He always took an active part in the politics of his county and state. he was elected assessor of Moniteau County in 1884 and served one term. He was a member and chaplain of the G.A.R. at Greenfield at the time of his death, and their ritual was carried out at the grave. In the death of Bro. George, the widow has lost a good and efficient husband, the children a loving father, the church and society a valuable member. He is survived by the widow and five children, one brother and a host of friends to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Greenfield, conducted by Elder W. H. Watson assisted by Mrs. I. M. Crank, pastor of the church, May 5th 1922 after which the remains were laid to rest in the Beautiful Greenfield Cemetery, there to wait the Resurrection morn. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.
