Biography

Harry Geeder is a part of US Black heritage.

Harry was born in 1876 in Delaware County, Ohio. He was the oldest child and son of Alpheus Geeder and Jennie Depp. His father was a prominent colored farmer in Jerome Township. He graduated from Wilberforce University, then attended Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee where he obtained his medical credentials. He was one of the few colored physicians listed in Nashville's Record of Physicians from 1899-1907. He married Katherine Gibson, from Nashville, in 1904. He practiced medicine in Topeka and Wichita, Kansas for many years, retiring due to blindness in his early eighties. He and his wife Katherine were still together in a 1961 Wichita, Kansas city census. It appears they never had any children. He passed away a widow in Kansas City, Missouri in 1974 and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashville, Tennessee.
