Biography

Sidney (Sidna) Gaston was born in Kentucky in 1816 to parents George Gaston and Rebecca Warfield. Her father passed away in Illinois. Mother, Rebecca Warfield Gaston, a widow, then married George W Davis after 1820 in Kentucky. Signey's brother was John E Gaston and both lived with her mother and stepfather in Gonzales, Colony, a small colony.

Sidney married first Thomas R. Miller of Gonzales Colony. The Gonzales marriage records show they posted a marriage bond, dated March 11, 1832. Sidney Gaston Miller gave birth to a son (father - Mr. Miller).. A separate note was later added to that record reflecting that the son died with a separate note dated July 21, 1833 mentioning the separation of Sidney andThomas R. Miller..

Along came handsome Johnny Kellogg. Soon Johnny and Sidney married (circa 1835) while Johnny was about 18. Soon Sidney was pregnant.

Johnny joined the Gonzales Rangers Relief Force. When Colonel Travis sent his letter appealing for aid for the Alamo Defenders, the whole Gonzales Force, called the Immortal 32, gathered their gear and supplies and rode the 74 miles to aid of the Defenders of the Alamo in San Antonio.

Johnny was one of the defenders killed in the Battle of The Alamo March 6, 1836. Remains of the Defenders were buried in San Fernando Cathedral.

Due to the danger of the Mexican army attacking all settlements, Sam Houston recommended colonists leave their homes and belongings and "flee". So it is said that Sidney, widow of John B Kellogg II escaped Gonzales with her in-laws J. Benjamin Kellogg and family. She had to ride in a bouncing wagon toward Washington Colony, Texas at the end of her pregnancy. (She had to carry what she could, and the rest was lost).

Her son John Benjamin Kellogg III was born six days later. Sidney Gaston Miller Kellogg remained living with her in-laws, and her son in Washington, Texas until her death within six months (Sept, 1836).
