Sidney was born in 1915. He was the son of Sidney Gascoigne and Agnes Bartholomew. He passed away in 2010.
Sidney Charles Bartholemew "Ben" Gascoigne AO was a New Zealand-born optical astronomer and expert in photometry who played a leading role in the design and commissioning of Australia's largest optical telescope, the Anglo-Australian Telescope, which for a time was one of the world's most important astronomical facilities.
In 1943 Ben Gascoigne married and moved into a house on Mount Stromlo with his wife, Rosalie Norah King Walker a renowned Australian sculptor.
Ben Gascoigne died on the 25th of March 2010. And a memorial service was held at St John's Church in Reid, Canberra, on the 12th of April that year.
