At the time of his marriage to Rachel (Sturzaker), his occupation is recorded as a Farmer. By 1928, he has now retired and is living in the Town of Westbury, Midlands Region, Tasmania, Australia.
Residence
From 1914 to 1922, William is living at Black Sugar Loaf Mountain, near the Town of Westbury, Tasmania, Australia with his wife Rachel (Sturzaker) and his children Leonard Montague, Lewis Henry and Vivian[6].
In 1928, both he and Rachel have moved to the Town of Westbury and are now residing at William Street[7].
Death
William passes away at William Street, in the Town of Westbury, Midlands Region, Tasmania, Australia on the 17 September 1929, after a short illness. He was 88 years old.

21 SEP 1929[10]WESTBURY. LATE MR. W. GARWOOD. The funeral of the late William Garwood, an old and respected resident of Westbury, took place on Thursday afternoon. The cortege was a long and representative one, the deceased having, been a very popular resident.
For many years he resided at Birralee, but of recent years Mr. and Mrs. Garwood, had lived in William-street, Westbury, where Mr. Garwood passed away after an illness of a few weeks......The pall-bearers were four grandsons (Messrs. Wm. Garwood, Vernon Garwood, John Garwood, and William Pugh). The chief mourners were the six remaining sons, namely, Messrs. Charles Garwood (Westbury), Louis and Leonard (Birralee), Herbert (Railton), Henry
(Westbury), and Vivian (Launceston). There is one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Pugh
(Frankford)[11].
Burial
He is laid to rest at the Westbury General Cemetery, 11 Lonsdale Promenade, Town of Westbury, Midlands Region, Tasmania, on the 19 September 1929. The location of his grave isn't known[12].
