In the 1881 census she was living with her parents, James and Hannah Garside, and two siblings at Crimble, Golcar, W Yorks.
Ten years later they were at the same address with the family completed at 6 children. Elizabeth was now 14 and described in the census as a 'woollen cloth mender'.
In 1901 she was recorded as a 'woollen mender" in the census, living with her parents and all 5 siblings at 12 Union Street, Slaithwaite, W Yorks. As in previous years the surname was recorded as Garside.
When she married early in 1902 her maiden name was recorded as Gartside, so the 't' had just been added. She did not then work again outside the home. Life changed abruptly in 1921 on the early death of her husband Hinton when she and her sons moved to Grimsby, no longer with a family oil business which seems to have collapsed rapidly. Elizabeth seems to have had good means and was able to help son Leslie to set up his radio business in St Albans around 1940. Ronald stayed in Grimsby and Elizabeth went to live in St Ann's on the west coast. After WW2 Elizabeth and son Ronald lived in Grimsby until her death in 1965.

Sadly, although I was 17 when she died and had met her fairly regularly in family visits, I do not recall a single conversation of substance.
