Biography

Charles was born in England in 1882, the son of Alfred Henry Garrett and Elizabeth Anne Elliot.

He emigrated to the United States in 1906 and became a naturalized citizen. He filed his Naturalization Petition in Pueblo, Colorado on 10 December 1918. He states that he is Charles William Garrett, born in London, England on Nov 16, 1882. He emigrated via the port of Liverpool, England on or about 6 July 1906, arriving at the port of Boston, Massachusetts on the vessel Cymric on 15 July 1906. He is married to Ruth Garrett born Nov 29, 1886 at Lowell, Massachusetts. A resident of the State of Colorado since 10 Sep 1911, he resides at 1322 Bragdon Avenue, Pueblo, Colorado. The petition was approved on 19 December 1924.

He married Ruth Estelle Ingalls on 6 July 1912 at Pueblo, Colorado. at Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado on 6 July 1912. Their marriage record states that Chrles was age 29, and "Estelle Ruth" age 25. They were married by J Arthur Jeffers, Clergyman. They were the parents of four known children:

He resides at 1119 Howard Street, Pueblo, the residence of his wife Ruth E Garrett, and their children. He is employed by the A. T. and S. F. Railroad (Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe RR) Co., working in the yard office in Pueblo. He is of medium height (5' 6"), medium build with blue eyes and light brown hair.

The 1920 US census for Pueblo, Pueblo County, Arizona conducted 15 Jan 1920 shows the occupants of a rented home located at 1119 Howard Street as head of household Charles Garrett (37), born in England, employed as a billing clerk for the steam railroad, his wife Ruth Garrett (33), born in Massachusetts, their son Charles Garrett, Jr (5), born in Colorado, and daughter Evelyn Garrett (3 years, 6 months), born in Massachusetts. Charles Sr. immigrated in 1906.

The 1930 US census for Pueblo, Pueblo County, Arizona shows the occupants of a home that they own, valued at $2000, located at 1322 Bragdon Street as head of household Charles Garrett (47), born in England, a naturalized citizen, employed as a clerk at the Santa Fe office, his wife Ruth Garrett (43), born in Massachusetts, son Charles Garrett (15), born in Colorado, and son Harry Garrett (7), born in Colorado. The family owns a radio set. Charles married at age 30, Ruth at age 25.

The 1940 US census for Pueblo, Pueblo County, Arizona shows the occupants of a home that they own, valued at $2000, located at 1322 Bragdon Street as Charles W Garrett (57), born in England, a naturalized citizen, employed as a railroad billing clerk, his wife and respondent to the report Ruth E Garrett (53), born in Massachusetts, son Charles I Garrett (25), born in Colorado, employed as a city fireman, and son Harry W Garrett (17), a student. Charles Sr completed 7th grade, Ruth completed two years of high school, Charles I completed four years of high school, and Harry completed three years of high school. Both Charles and his son Charles are salaried workers; Charles Sr earned $1938 while the younger Charles earned $1700. The family lived in the same place in 1935.

He registered for the WWII draft on 27 April 1942 in Pueblo, Colorado. He is listed as Charles William Garrett, age 59, born in London, England on Nov 16, 1882. He is a resident of 1322 Bragdon Avenue, Pueblo and is employed by the Santa Fe and C. S. RR, Pueblo. His phone number is 5609M. He is described as being white, with blue eyes, blond hair, and a light complexion.

The 1950 US census for Pueblo, Pueblo County, Arizona shows the occupants of a home that they own located at 1322 Bragdon Street as head of household Hary [sic] W Garrett (27), born in Colorado, married, employed as a clerk with the railroad, his wife Bertha M Garrett (28), born in Colorado, daughter Ruth C Garrett (1), born in Colorado and Harry's parents Charles W Garrett (65), born in England, not employed, and Ruth Garrett (60), born in Massachusetts.

Charles passed away in 1959 and is buried at the Mountain View Cemetery, Pueblo, Colorado.
