Sarah was born in 1810. Mrs. Gregg was a nurse during the US Civil War. She passed away in 1897.
Ottawa, Ill., May 22.-Mrs. Sarah Gallap-Gregg died here at the age of 87. At the breaking out of the late war she took an active part in the relief corps and sanitary commission. She served as nurse in two regiments and as matron in the United States general hospital at Camp Butler, near Springfield. During the siege of Vicksburg she took a corps of nurses down the river remaining there three months, finally bringing back nearly 1,800 sick and wounded soldiers of the Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Ohio regiments. She returned to Camp Butler and continued as matron there until the close of the war.[1]
