  • He died before 17 Mar 1767 in Craven Co, Nc.
  • He married Isabella Lawson.
  • Children
  1. Onesimus Futch Sr. was born in 1745.
  • Martin Futch's stock and brand mark were recorded September 20, 1737. North Carolina records also show he owned 100 acres on the west side of Chinquapin Creek at the mouth of Little Creek. Martin bought more land in 1753 and 50 more acres in 1756.
  • Martin's estate was probated in 1767 in Craven Co, NC.
  • The will stated in part: He desires that his wife, Isabella, should have all that he has in the world during her widowhood and after her widowhood then Joseph Chilly his son Martin (Joseph Chilly's son Martin) is to have one Negro girl named Cloe forever, and one feather bed to Joseph Chilly forever and then to my Onesamus Futch his son Jack (Onesamus's son Jack) have all the remainder of my estate to him and his heirs forever. "My Onesamus" above, is now thought by many to be Martin's only son. Isabella moved in with and lived for a time with Onesimus. It is thought that Joseph Chilly's son Martin was a namesake as Joseph is now thought to have been a stepson to Martin Futch by way of Isabella's first marriage to John Chilly.

To all Futch researchers, I offer this clarification on Onesimus Futch and Ann Duke from request by T Strickland. I think that a new review of my tree will help. I have reworked my information to clear errors. First the Onesimus born 1745 the only son of Martin Futch who married Ann Duke was not born in South Carolina and his marriage to Ann Duke I tool from the U.S. and International Marriage Records online. At the time of their marriage his uncle Onesimus was living in Orangeburg, South Carolina so I assume that they married in his uncles home and the returned to his farm in New Hanover. To keep them all straight here are the four men with that unusual name;

Onesimus Futch I, was born 1716 in New Bern, North Carolina and died 1782 in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Onesimus Futch Sr., was born 1745 in Craven County, North Carolina and died 1832 in Georgia after migrating there with a land grant. His father, Martin Futch was the older brother of Onesimus Futch I.

Onesimus Futch Jr., was born 1765 in Orangeburg, South Carolina at the uncles home and he died about 1836 in Georgia

Onesimus Futch II, was born 1794 in North Carolina and died 1828 in Alabama. He was the grandson of Onesimus Futch I, and the son of Jacob Blunt Futch.

Not only is it difficult to keep all the family lines properly connected but unless other look over our shoulders the errors we make will compound future research problems.

So I thank you for your question and I would have gotten back to you sooner if I could just learn to navigate this software better. Roy

Futch-285 and Futch-98 appear to represent the same person because: Same person needs sources.

Futch-285 and Futch-98 do not represent the same person because: The birth dates don't match. The birth locations don't match. This is a square peg 8n a round hole situation. They don't fit.
