Biography

Josiah was born in 1645 and is the second son of Josiah Firman and Angelche Beers. He was born in either Newtown, Long Island or in New England in 1645, and he died in Hopewell, New Jersey, August 8, 1742, aged ninety-seven years, having either accompanied or followed his son Richard Furman (1680-1757) to New Jersey in 1710.

From Find a Grave:

Josias ... was the son of Josias Furman Sr., who settled in Hempstead (1657) and then Newtown (1664), Queens Co., Long Island, NY. Josias Jr. received land in Newtown on his father's account in 1679. He married the widow Roberts Sarah (Strickland) Furman (abt.1644-1742) about 1680.
Although Josias purchased other tracts in Newtown in the 1690s, he is thought to have relocated to Maidenhead, old Burlington Co., NJ, in the 1700-1710 period. This area became part of Hunterdon County when it was formed in 1714, and is now Lawrenceville, Mercer Co. Four of Josias's five children settled in the Maidenhead-Hopewell-Trenton vicinity, as well as his wife/widow. Note: His memorial is tentatively placed here based on his supposed residence at the time of death. No documentation of burial or a gravestone has been found. [ But he's thought to be interred at the Presbyterian Churchyard, Lawrenceville, Mercer County, New Jersey]
