Mr. Casimer Russak III, you can type anything you want into a Wikitree profile that you have knowledge of. If anything in a newspaper has been read by you, that information had become public information as soon as the paper was printed and released to the public, the only copyright is if you use a copy of the article or you type word for word the article, all you have to do is read it and type your summery. As for using Wikitree category, you are the one that created the profile and put the law enforcement category on the profile. As for your personal knowledge of family members, that is up to you, you have that information. Just to add a bit of information, if this Mark Williamson you mention does work for the Trinity Sheriff's Department, he would be either a Deputy Sheriff or a Civilian employee.

Why is the category of California Deputy Sheriff attached to this profile? There is nothing in the profile about the person being part of Law Enforcement or associated to any California Sheriff's Office/Department. I was reading some G2G entries on this category and was going through clicking on profiles in the category, and have been finding several that have this category on them, but no mention about the person in the profile being a California Deputy Sheriff, so this is not the only one. Just has me wondering why the category is on the profile. I did check the California Peace Officer Memorial, and did not find his name listed.

1- I knew Officer Fritz and his family personally (his adopted son was a n'er-do-well and his daughter a hooligan) 2-Doesn't his obituary mention his law enforcement service? Maybe you would like to research the profiles and add some biographical contributions?

Thank you for getting back to me about this. If you personally know this, you should include it in the narrative and put you down as a source (1st and possibly 2nd person). As for your number 2 question, the obituary you list does not have an online link in it, so no one is able to read anything further than just what you wrote. I do have a family member that can look up newspapers, but had not contacted them about this one. I am one of those Wikitree members that mostly work on branches of family and friends, and due to my Marine Corps time and California Peace Officer time, as a Deputy Sheriff, I tend to review those topics and profiles with them. I did not know anything about Officer (Deputy?) Fritz, prior to reading the category subject in G2G, and then clicking on his profile. But in our small world, I did already have information on William Chester Jackson-43643, another of your profiles. William was a Trinity County Deputy Sheriff, who was killed in the line of duty, I added to his profile.

Many of the online obits are copyright protected so one can only barely mention them without violating copyright laws. There are even rules against deep linking to many sights. With the way Trinity County is, maybe the profiles should not be categorized as law enforcement. The mystery character is Officer Fritz's wife's brother in law, Officer Mark Williamson (of Trinity Sheriff Dept.) Only the old newspaper archives might have something about him, or Kavan.
