Biography

John Frenche was baptised on 07 June 1595 in Misterton, Somerset, England, the son of Richard French. ^[1]

He was named in his maternal grandfather's will dated 19 March 1603/4. The will of Lucy (Adams) French's father, John Adams of Barton [St.] David, Somersetshire, bequeathed 20s. to be divided equally among the children of Richard French of Misterton: John French [bp. 7 June 1595], Stephen French [bp. 26 Dec. 1600], and "Mary" French [bp. 18 May 1603]. Their relationship to the testator was not stated, nor was the name of Richard French's wife, but it is assumed that French was John Adams’s son-in-law.^[2][3]

John was also named in his father's will. In the will of Richard French of Misterton which is heavily damaged,^[4] dated in late 1638, he named his grandchildren Samuel French, John French, and Hester French, each to receive money and goods from his household items when they attained the aged of 21 years. His son John French was to receive the residue of his estate and was made the sole executor.

Based on his children's baptismal records, he married Anne ___ by 1625.
