Melinda French Gates is a philanthropist who has received many honors for her work. She is also a former manager at Microsoft and the former wife of Microsoft founder and CEO Bill Gates.
Melinda Ann French was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 15, 1964, the daughter of Raymond French, Jr., and Elaine Agnes (Amerland) French.
She received her early education in Catholic schools in Dallas, graduating from Ursuline Academy of Dallas in 1982. She went on to Duke University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in computer science and economics in 1986 and an MBA in 1987.
She joined Microsoft as a marketing manager after receiving her MBA.
Melinda married Bill Gates in Hawaii on January 1, 1994. They had three children and they co-founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which they still lead together. The marriage ended in divorce in 2021.
