Known as Neville Fraser, he was the father of Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser.
He was born in Armadale, Victoria in 1890 to prominent pastoralist and politician Simon Fraser and Annie Bertha Collins. He was educated at Melbourne Grammar and read law at Oxford, being admitted to the Inner temple, He served as a Captain in the Royal Field Artillery during World War I and was wounded in 1917.
He married Una Woolf in 1926 and they had two children: Lorraine (1927) and John Malcolm (1930). He lived mostly on the sprawling 11,000 hectar Balpool-Nyang property in the Roverina, where he built a larger house. Balpool was 70km from the nearest town (Deniliquin). He struggled to hold the property during the 1930s. He sold the property in 1943 and acquired Nareen, a 3,500 hectare property in Western Victoria, although the family spent a lot of time in Melbourne.
