Biography

This profile is part of the Franzen Name Study.

Johann Heinrich "John" Franzen was born on 9 Jul 1828 [1] in Schale, Tecklenburg, Westfalen, Preußen, the son of Johann Bernard Franzen and Anna Adelheid Moellenthien. [2]

In 1850 he was a 22 year old farmer, living with his family in Addison, DuPage, Illinois. [3]

He married Louisa B Moecklin on 24 May 1855 in DuPage County, Illinois. [4]

In 1860, he was a farmer in Addison, DuPage, Illinois, living with his wife, mother and two younger brothers. [5]

In 1870 he was a 42 year old farmer in Addison, DuPage, Illinois (Post Office: Lyden), living with his wife, mother, younger brother William and 14 year old Henry Shiler. The value of his real estate was $7000, and his personal estate $1500. [6]

In 1880 he was living in Addison, DuPage, Illinois with his wife, mother and adopted(?) ten year old daughter Mary. [7]

He died in Addison Township, DuPage, Illinois [2] on 24 [8] or 20 Sep 1888, and was buried at Saint Johannes Cemetery in Bensenville, DuPage, Illinois. His grave was relocated in the early 2010s to Elm Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum and Crematorium in Elmhurst, DuPage, Illinois, due to the expansion of O'Hare Airport. [9]


Research Notes

  • St John's United cemetery and Funeral List (Addison Township) shows date of death as 24 Sep 1888, but gravestone photo on FindAGrave pretty clearly shows 20, not 24, but gravestone is quite worn. Guessing the burial was on the 24th and death on the 20th.
  • Not listed in the Schale church book. Check nearby parishes?
