Christian H. Frantz (some family members spelled the last name as France) was born on December 17, 1786 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His parents were John France (Frantz) and Magdalehah Motleanea Hofstetter. Christian married Nancy Frick on November 21, 1808. Christian was an ordained minister of the Reformed Mennonite Church. It was through his efforts that the church was established near Ringgold, Maryland in about 1827. Much of his time was spent in preaching and he also made pioneer journeys on horseback over the mountains to Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, when there were yet no highways, only bridle paths blazed through the woods to spread the Gospel. He died in Ringgold, Maryland on February 7, 1862.
