Biography

Parents Uncertain

There are several theories regarding the parents of Peter Foster, however, no REAL PROOF (i.e. primary source documents from the time of his life) have been found--- "I found it in an online tree" IS NOT PROOF! There are many ERRORS and UNSOURCED entries in online trees, including familysearch.org and ancestry.com.

Birth

Peter Foster's birth place is not known; according to Soughton research of 2016, there are no surviving baptism entries for any Peter Fosters in Buckinghamshire in the 16th century. Soughton suggests that it is possible that he was born in the vicinity since a surviving 1524 tax subsidy return for Buckinghamshire lists a William Foster at Wendover who paid £1, (Buckinghamshire Record Society volume 8, Subsidy Roll for the County of Buckingham). William could have been an ancestor of Peter Foster. [1]

Marriage & Wife's Name

The wife of Peter Foster was listed in his will as "Ellen". Her last name before marriage is not known. [1]There are some online trees that show her last name as Greenway, but this is NOT correct. Helene Greenway was NOT the wife of Peter Foster of Wendover. Helene Greenway was married to a PATRICK FOSTER of Wing, Buckinghamshire.

1609 Will

Peter Foster, a fuller of Wendover, dated April 20 1609, and proved July 13, 1609. Peter died between these two dates. [1]

The will mentions

  • wife, Ellen,
  • son Richard,
  • daughter, Margery Cooke,
  • daughter Elizabeth Foster,
  • daughter Isabelle Foster,
  • son Thomas Foster,
  • daughter Katheren Tompkins,
  • and Ales (Alice) Skinner, "my daughter's child". [2]

Children

CHILDREN: Seven children were listed in the will of Peter Foster, including two sons Richard and Thomas; and five daughters, Margery, Elizabeth, Isabelle, Katheren Tompkins, and one deceased daughter, who was identified as the mother of Ales Skinner. [1]

  1. Richard
  2. Thomas
  3. Margery
  4. Elizabeth
  5. Isabelle
  6. Katheren
  7. unnamed daugher, deceased, mother of Ales Skinner.

CHILDREN'S BIRTH: It is not known where or when Peter and Ellen's children were baptized as there are no surviving entries.[1]

Great research -- I'm wondering if, since there is no proof of the wife or parents who are shown, they should be disconnected, and simply linked in the biography?
