Lethal W. Fortman was born about 1908[1] in Illinois[1]. He was the child[1] of George W. Fortman and Martha Sanders, the grandchild[2] of former slave Ford George, Jr. a.k.a. George Fortman, the great-grandchild[2] of white plantation widow Hester Lamb, and the great-great-grandchild[2] of Choctaw Native Rachel and Blackhawk Native John Hawk.
