Biography

Mary Julia Flowers was born on 09 December 1925 in New Brockton, Coffee County, Alabama, United States.^[1] Her parents were Henry Grady Flowers (1894 - 1978) and Eva Clyde (Wilson) Flowers (1899 - 1991).^[2]

When she was 4 years old she was enumerated on the 1930 United States Census in the household of her parents. They were living in New Brockton, Coffee County, Alabama. Mary had an older brother and a younger brother. Mary's father was a barber.^[3]

Mary's younger brother, Charles Flowers, died in 1930.

After 1930 but before 1935 her family moved to MacClenny, Baker County, Florida and were living there when the Florida State Census for 1935 was taken. Mary was 9 years old at the time.^[4]

The family moved again and were recorded living in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on the1940 United States Census. Mary, who was 14 years old in 1940, had completed 7 years of school.^[5]

Mary Flowers and John H. Giffin were married on 10 October 1942 in McClenny, Baker County, Florida.^[6][7] They were the parents of at least 2 children who were named in her obituary, a transcription of which was included in her FindAGrave memorial.

Mary and John Griffin were making their home at 7349 Wilder Street in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida when the 1950 United States Census was taken.^[8]

Mary's son David Wray Griffin and David's wife Tamarra died tragically in 1974 when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a pickup truck which crossed the median of a road.^[9] Her son, Terry Griffin, died in 1978.^[10]

Mary Julia (Flowers) Griffin passed away due to a sudden illness on 03 October 2003 in Florida. She was 77 years old.^[1][2] As she wished, her remains were cremated.^[11]
