Doris Evelyn Monica Flintoft was born 1 Feb 1909 in Christchurch Canterbury New Zealand to Ada Flintoft father unknown.
1910 At the age of 19 months Doris was fostered by Mrs Ellen Hessey Ellen Hore widow of Sydenham Christchurch. Doris is named in "Hesseys from Nottinghamshire" by Frances Stewart as Doris Neville who married and became Doris Rothwell. Quote from "Hesseys of Nottinghamshire" - Ellen Hessey brought up Doris Rothwell nee Neville from the age of 19mths, who, although she was never legally adopted, was made to feel like one of the family.
1922 Doris's mother Ada Flintoft married James Anthony Neville. Doris would be 12yrs old at this stage. One can only assume that birth mother Ada was in contact with the Hessey family hence they called Doris - Doris Neville.
1930 - Doris Fintoft age 21 married Henry (Harry) Rothwell in New Zealand.[1]
