Geoff Gordon Fletcher, Labourer, of Roma, Queensland, enlisted in the Australian Army 2nd July 1941 at Toowoomba, Queensland. On 1st November 1941 he embarked on H.M.T. "K K" at Sydney & disembarked in the Middle East 22nd November 1941 & marched out to 2/12th Infantry Battalion from 18 Australian Infantry Training Battalion. In August 1942 he disembarked at New Guinea. He was promoted to Acting Corporal 14th January 1943, and the following week was wounded in action with gun shot wounds to scalp, chest & hand & evacuated to 2/9 Australian General Hospital. He embarked from Port Moresby on the Taroona 8th March 1943 & arrived in Cairns 10th March 1943. Promotion to rank of Corporal was confirmed 18th March 1943. He returned to New Guinea 22nd November 1943 until 26th May 1944. He was serving as a Corporal at 2/1 Australian Divisional Base Depot prior to his discharge on 12th July 1945.[2][3]
