Biography

Scottish flag
Richard Fleming MBE has Scottish Ancestors.
Richard was born in 1914.[1] He was the son of Scottish-born George Norval Fleming[2] and his wife Ethel Sackville Reed.[3]

In 1930 Richard, his mother and sister, Margaret, disembarked from the Armadale Castle in Southampton, Hampshire. They were due to visit "Riddings" in Alfreton, Derbyshire, and had sailed in First Class.[4] In October 1935 Richard returned from Africa to England where he was a student at Magdalene College, Cambridge.[5]

Richard was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1946 New Year's Honours list. He was serving as a Major in The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment).[6]

The next year Richard married Gillian Mary Willett in Bedhampton, Hampshire, England.[7][8][9]

"FLEMING : WILLETT. – On Saturday, April 12 1947, at St. Thomas’s Church, Bedhampton, MAJOR RICHARD WALLACE FLEMING, M.B.E., The Black Watch (R.H.R.), son of Mr. and Mrs. George Fleming, of Gilston Estate, Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, to GILLIAN MARY, daughter of CAPTAIN and MRS. BASIL WILLETT, of The Old Mill House, Bedhampton, Hants." [10]

Research notes

Richard registered his father's death in Southern Rhodesia in 1961[2] and his mother's the next year.[3] There is lots of family information to be extracted from the documents. Fuller-8857 20:59, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
