I am researching the ancestry of my close friend Herbert DeMott Burtis (1930-2021). He is directly related to Pietro Cesare Alberti (1608-1655) and Joris Janssen Rapalje (1604-1662). The surname Rapalje appears in both the paternal and maternal lines of Herbert Burtis. I am currently exploring the maternal line, which needs connecting between Margaret Rapalje (1837 - ) and Joris Janssen Rapalje. Any help that is available is greatly appreciated. An amateur genealogist, I have researched my own Fleer line in Nordrhein-Westfalen, and have learned the value of source citations.

Hello Michael,

I'm finding WikiTree very helpful with the Burtis family tree (the one with the Rapalje ancestors). However, with several thousand Fleer ancestors in FTM and Ancestry, it's a bit too much to have to add them manually to Fleer-47. Is there an easier way to transfer one or more people to my WikiTree?

Hey David,

Adding profiles in a good way is a time consuming process for sure. We really value the high quality and have made it difficult to do big imports, due to the risk of creating unsourced profiles and/or duplicates.

I still have several thousand profiles to go, and what I do is create Gedcoms from my software, upload that to WikiTree and then do the compare. That will aid me in searching for the duplicates and 'holes'. I did do a lot of imports from there, but got tired of the required clean-up afterwards. So now I still do manual creations.

But, as there is no such thing as 'my' or 'your' WikiTree, you will find that it is really worthwhile finding the connections, and then attracting others to help. The community of capable of doing a lot of work, and we are all helping eachother. That is the real big difference with the other websites where people all work alone.

Hope this helps a bit,

Michel
