Forrest attended El Reno High School and Oklahoma Christian University before entering the U.S. Air Force in Oklahoma City March 23, 1942. He trained at San Antonio, Texas (either at Kelly Field, Brooks Air Force Base, or Lackland AFB). He also trained at Scott Field, NM, and Santa Ana, CA before serving in the European Theater of Operation. In the 8th AAC, 412th SQ., 95th Bomb Gp.
Forrest was a part of the first daylight raid over Berlin, Germany; as a bombardier, he completed 46 missions in the only Eighth Air Force Group to be awarded three Distinguished Unit Citations. Another important accomplishment occurred after VE Day--transporting liberated prisoners and displaced persons from Austria to France and England. Major Flagler was discharged Feb. 19, 1946 and was awarded the DFC w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the EAME Medal w/3 Battle Stars and the Presidential Citation.
