Biography

She and William de la Rukele had an heir who was under the wardship of Philip de Albiniaco as a minor for some years.^[2]

The ancestry of William was the subject of a legal case in 1220/21 (5 Henry III).^[3]

The widow of this William was named Joanna. Book of Fees II, p.1347 shows her in Chafford hundred in Essex, which contains South Okendon. "Johanna que fuit uxor Willelmi de la Rokel' est de donacione domini regis. Et est maritanda, et terra sua de dote valet xxx.l."

Richardson proposed that the mother of Richard must be a daughter of Geoffrey fitz Peter, Earl of Essex, so this Joanna is apparently that daughter.

In 1233 the king gave her control of her own marriage.^[4]
